Nordstrom Rack – End-to-End Project Experience
Nordstrom Rack is another project where Zequan played a key role throughout every phase, from the initial concept to the construction close-out.
During the Pre-Planning Phase, he researched zoning and building codes, prepared the Zoning Summary, liaised with the client, and gathered existing condition drawings.
In the Schematic and Design Development Phases, Zequan worked closely with principal architect James Van Hooser, sketching concepts, refining designs, and negotiating with the client to ensure alignment between the design vision and budget. He also initiated coordination with structural and MEP engineers, helping to develop floor plans, sections, and detailed drawings.
During the Construction Document Phase, Zequan coordinated the construction documents, working alongside structural and MEP teams. He also collaborated with a lighting specialist and building material consultant to finalize the project’s finish schedule. At the same time, he assisted James Van Hooser in preparing the specification book.
In the Bidding Phase, Zequan managed the submission process by completing and filing forms with the city, making revised drawings according to city reviews, and gaining approvals through the building department.
Throughout the Construction Administration Phase, he shadowed James Van Hooser, assisted in managing transmittals and RFIs, and coordinated with the General Contractor through weekly meetings and daily oversight via Procore. He conducted site visits at key project milestones—once when the front facade was completed and again when the project reached 99% completion. Additionally, he assisted in the punch list process and final close-out documentation.
Zequan’s comprehensive involvement in Nordstrom Rack provided him with invaluable hands-on experience in managing architectural projects from inception to completion, refining his coordination, documentation, and client communication skills.
